Devices and driving no longer mix -- at least if you're a Bismarck City employee.
The City Commission voted tonight to approve a policy that prohibits employees and volunteers from using cell phones, hand-held GPS systems, cameras and virtually all other devices while driving.
The policy applies whether operating a City or personal vehicle on City business. Workers can be subject to personal liability if they're involved in an accident in violation of the policy. Police officers and emergency situations are exempt.
Commissioner Asvig was the lone vote against the policy. He said it goes too far in prohibiting hands-free cell phone talking.
