Small Tornadoes Do No Damage

Posted: Updated:

Severe thunderstorms developed quickly in central North Dakota Tuesday.

The first areas to see the storms were McHenry County - around Velva and Ruso.

Here's what it looked like about 4:15 near Ruso at the Brett Saville farm.

This funnel cloud touched down in Saville's pasture - landing right in a small pond and throwing water all over.

Saville says the twister barely missed his farm yard - he estimated it hit about 100 yards away from his yard.

He watched the tornado move to the north and east and skirt near one of his buildings before it pulled back up into the cloud.

Another witness saw the tornado as he drove near Ruso.

"I was going north on 41when I saw it in the mirror of my sprayer and it was just south of me up on top of the hill, north of Ruso.

The National Weather Service reports three separate small tornadoes touched down in McHenry County, but there was no damage reported.
