4-H Achievement Days

Kids from all over Ward County were in Minot to compete and show off their hard work today.

Over 300 members of the 4-H club and their families participated in the Ward County 4-H Achievement Days.

The three day event exhibits different types of animals the kids have raised.

Today was a livestock showmanship contest in which participants were judged on how well they work with their animal.

For many kids its a warm-up for the state fair coming up in less than a month.

The children receive tips about how to take care of their animal in order to better place in future contests.

4-H is for children ages 8-18.

One of the coordinators of the event believes the club is more than just working with animals.

(Paige Brummund, Extension Agent, NDSU Extension Service) "It's a great learning experience for kids. It gives them real life experience. It gives them public speaking skills, it gives them confidence. It helps them basically develop lifelong skills that are going to help them in the future."

The 3 day event began Tuesday and will end Thursday night with a livestock sale in the expo building.
