Career Options in Oil Patch

Posted: Updated:

More than a dozen companies operating in the Bakken took timeout this week to do some recruiting.

The Williston Basin Oil and Gas Career Expo was held at the Grand Williston Hotel Tuesday.

It gave companies seeking skilled workers a chance to meet in person with job seekers.

And it gave people looking for new work with top oil-related businesses a chance to show off.

One company official says there are still lots of openings in the oil field.

(Billy Thomas, Ryan Directional Services) "We're looking for engineers, folks that have field experience to place in technical positions and other positions in all the open positions at Nabors and Ryan Directional Services."

(Susan Turner, Expo Organizer) "We've got 14 employers, awesome companies. From Marathon Oil to Kodiak to Rockwater, Key Energy, Nabors, Ryan Energy, just a great lineup. "

People looking for jobs at the expo were advised to have at least two years experience in the industry to have a shot at landing a job.

Call it a case of deja vu, but Ward County voters can expect to see a bond request in front of them early next year, asking for almost the exact amount that they previously approved to build a new county office building and expand the jail.
