Before championship games really got rolling today-- a team from Bismarck and a team from Mandan met on the softball diamond-- no championship trophy waiting for the winner-- but championship smiles and enjoyment filled the faces of the Special Olympic athletes that took the Mandan/Bismarck Rivalry as serious as could be.
Everyone got to bat-- players showcased their competitive spirit but also the sportsmanship that comes with it.
No score was kept-- every single athlete on the field was a winner today at McQuade.
(Richard Schwingler/ Head Coach Special Olympics Softball) "This is a real special event for them all they just love to play here and really enjoy practicing and it's kind of a big event that just gives them a sense of participation. they really enjoy that fans come out cheering for them its a special time for them somebody is watching their game and their game is important too."
