Parade Homesteading in Mandan

Posted: Updated:

Homesteading takes on a whole new meaning in Mandan today.

People stake their claims on portions of the Mandan Parade route in anticipation of the big celebration tomorrow.  Some even removed seats from their vehicles to ensure a front-row vantage point.  A local business says none of this is unusual this time of year.

"We usually have people start about two to three days in advance.  You'll see vehicles lined up all the way along the grass from end to end there.  People just need to get their seats ready, so they come as early as they can," says Chuck Haugtvedt, Assistant Manager at Petro Serve USA on Main in Mandan.

Petro Serve says if you show up early enough, there's space in their lot -- plus, they're having a barbeque.  The Mandan Parade starts at 10:30 a.m., but streets close earlier, so be sure to get where you're going -- before everyone else does.
