Pitbull Owner Protective Over His Dog

Posted: Updated:

We track down a pitbull owner to hear why he's actually protective over his pets.

This is Holly, a UKC registered pitbull who lives in Bismarck.

Her owner Steve Braus says he has had two pitbulls, and specifically chose the breed because of their athletic builds.

His first dog Crease died around a year ago, but Steve says he was almost a poster-child for the dogs that are sometimes considered dangerous.

He says neither of his dogs have ever caused a problem with people, other than being excited to see them.

Steve says pitbulls can get a bad rap, but it's more about how the dog was raised, then the breed of dog.

Regardless, he keeps Holly close to him when out in public.

"If they were a golden retriever and they were out just walking around and one of them jumped up happily to play with someone, it's a golden retriever so no big deal, but if it's a pitbull and the dog has the same intentions, then you don't know how that person is going to react so you have to be careful with people, not dogs in my opinion." says Steve Braus, pitbull owner.

There are no prohibited breeds within the Bismarck/Mandan city limits.
