Minot School Enrollment Up

Minot School Enrollment Up

Posted: Updated:

Summer is flying by faster than many of us would like.

Before we know it - the new school year will be starting.

Students of Minot public schools will be seeing more new faces than usual next year because enrollment is already up from last year.

The total amount of students on opening day last year was 7,133

Even though school is about 6 weeks away, enrollment as of now is already at 7,160.

The enrollment office has seen about 25 new students enroll per week.

In the early parts of summer, a large portion of enrollment came from incoming kindergarten students, which is typical.

However, over the last few weeks enrollment specialist, Barbara Hansen, says the enrollment department is seeing students from ALL grades registering for next year.

Hansen is not surprised by the increase in enrollment and even expects things to pick up over the next month.

(Barbara Hansen, Enrollment Specialist, Minot Schools) "We've put a push out for families to come and enroll their children so they are not all waiting until August, so maybe it will be that. I'm thinking it's going to pick-up a bit now. Families as they are moving in town closer to the start of the year, gearing up for school, seeing school supplies in the store they will start contacting schools. They will eventually come to us. We will enroll here at the board of education."

If you still need to enroll your child in school, contact the enrollment office to schedule an appointment.

Birth certificate, immunization records and proof of residence are needed to enroll.
