Five people were injured in an explosion at an oil rig near Alexander this morning.
McKenzie County Sheriff John Fulwider says one man, 54-year-old Mike Fowler, was transported to the hospital via air ambulance.
The other four were taken by ambulance or personal vehicles to emergency rooms.
The sheriff says it appears the explosion happened when a cover was taken off a tank and an electric drill ignited fumes that had been trapped there.
He says the five men are employees of Trust Land Oilfield Services.
Sheriff Fulwider says officers stopped traffic at the intersection of Highways 85 and 200 to allow the air ambulance helicopter to land and pick up the most badly injured victim.
OSHA will continue to investigate the incident.
