Exercising in the Heat of the Day

Posted: Updated:

The dog days of summer are here.

And it's important to take care of your body when out in the sun.

Personal Trainer, Emily Vasey recommends exercising early in the morning or later in the evening to avoid the hot temperatures.

If you prefer the heat, here are some safety tips.

"If you want to exercise in the middle of the day, the biggest thing is to stay hydrated. And not just during exercise but before you exercise, after you exercise, drink plenty of water all day long. Also what you where is super important. Make sure you're wearing something that breathes good, a good wicking material is good. Wear hats, that would be good and sunscreen," says Emily Vasey, Personal Trainer.

For many, the warm weather is welcoming to those who prefer exercising outdoors.

"I like being outdoors mostly if I can. But if it's too hot then I usually stick indoors. Outdoors is a lot of fun because you can kind of look around and do whatever you want but indoors is nice because it's always cool," says Bridget Hineman.

If you're outside in the sun, Vasey also says if your skin starts to tingle or you feel dizzy or nauseous, to make sure to find shade and hydrate.
