Around Town -- July 19, 2013

Posted: Updated:

New and changing businesses are all "Around Town."

"Our expertise is taking kind of reclaimed woods and we're re-purposing everything, and so we're taking things that are very old -- 100, 150, 200 years old.  Some of the juniper pieces that we build the woods are as old as a thousand years old that come out of the Bear Tooth Pass in Red Lodge, Montana," says John Severson, Owner/Manager, Montana Furniture & Mercantile.  Montana Furniture and Mercantile is coming to Bismarck.  They build hand-crafted furniture you can buy off the showroom floor or custom order.

They'll also feature pieces from other artisans and craftsmen, like this mesquite line with ground-in turquoise.  The owners are "pickers," so they'll have antiques like this 1953 handmade boat too.  They're set to open August 1st at 510 East Main Street, Bismarck.

Introduced last year, the Scarlet Gypsy is out for its first full season.  The traveling boutique offers women's clothing, jewelry and accessories, priced to be affordable -- and, as the owner says, always trendy.  "I'm up-to-the-minute trends, and I have handbags and wallets and clutches and whatever you see in California or New York, you'll find in my store," says Therissa Heit, Owner/Stylist of The Scarlet Gypsy.

The Scarlet Gypsy will be at the State Fair beginning today.  You can follow The Scarlet Gypsy on Facebook or Twitter to track where they'll go from there.

To avoid conflict with a Texas' restaurant by the same name, Taco Polente on Airport Highway has a new name -- "Arnaldo's" -- named after the owner, Arnaldo.  He stresses it's only a name change, and says there'll be no change in your favorite Mexican food.

Trading in the old for the new.  The former Burger King on State street is destined to offer Hawaiian barbeque.  The Bismarck City Commission has approved a liquor license at the location for Oahu Hawaiian Barbeque.  Renovations are currently underway.
