McCreery Plays Base Before Concert

Posted: Updated:

Tonight's grandstand attraction is a young singer who's making a name for himself.

And last night, he was doing something he's never done before.

Former American Idol winner and current country music recording artist Scotty McCreery played his first ever USO show at Minot Air Force Base last night.

McCreery spent part of the day touring the base and seeing what happens there to keep the nation secure.

He told us that playing his first show on an Air Force base was special to him because his grandfather served in the Air Force.

(Scotty McCreery - Playing First USO Show) "I have been talking to troops today about how USO has helped them when they were deployed and if they needed a drink they were there for them so they are a special organization. You see country music artists all the time doing USO tours be it here in the states or overseas. The USO has been a big support and as country artists we are proud to be a part of it."

Of course McCreery is set to play for thousands tonight -- he is the grandstand show getting ready to kick off.

He takes the stage at about eight tonight.
