Bulldozer Driver Killed in Amtrak Collision

Posted: Updated:

A Williston man was killed last night when the bulldozer he was driving was hit by an Amtrak train west of Trenton.

The Highway Patrol reports 45-year-old Dennis L. McQueen died in the accident that happened about 7:30 Monday night.

McQueen was driving this bulldozer on a private railroad crossing on a road that leads from a gravel pit to Highway 1804.

An Amtrak official says two crew members on the train were taken to Mercy Medical Center for treatment of injuries that were termed minor.

They were the only injuries among the 326 persons on board the Amtrak train.

The train continued on its east-bound trip about six hours after the crash, using a locomotive provided by Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad.

An Amtrak official says the passenger train hauled the damaged Amtrak locomotive as it continued its trip.

BNSF investigators were on the scene of the accident early this morning, trying to find out how the bulldozer ended up on the crossing when the Amtrak train arrived.
