German Engineering Comes to Bismarck

Posted: Updated:

Within the next six months, you won't have to travel any further than Bismarck for German engineering.

Volkswagen of America has awarded a Volkswagen franchise to Kupper Automotive.  It will be one of only two Volkswagen dealerships in North Dakota.

"Volkswagen is one of the fastest growing car companies in America right now.  They've got some pretty lofty goals.  They want to sell about 450,000 cars in 2013, and by 2017, they want to sell 800,000. So that's quite an increase. So we've got a job ahead of us," says Bob Kupper, Owner, Bismarck Motor Company and Kupper Chevrolet-Subaru.

To keep up with their expanding lines, Kupper is building a new dealership in north Bismarck.  Ground-breaking at the more than 12-acre site is expected soon, with a grand opening slated for sometime in 2014.

"We'll have a stand alone Honda store, stand alone Nissan store, stand alone Volkswagen store, and a four-bay quick lube."

The expansion is expected to create fifty new jobs.  Kupper says they're keeping the Mandan dealership.  Hyundai will remain at the South Bismarck location.
