More parking space is in store for downtown Minot after the city opened bids on a parking project today.
Initially, the Rennaissance and Central Avenue parking projects were re-designed after the project exceeded the budget.
The $9 million project will feature two parking structures--both three levels and approximately 230 stalls each.
Apartments will be built on top of the stalls; however, that isn't included in the $9 million dollar budget.
Parking will be available to apartment residents and downtown visitors.
The parking project is a part of an overall rejuvenation of the downtown area.
City of Minot Finance Director, Cindy Hemphill, says the parking project will help build a stronger downtown.
(Cindy Hemphill, City of Minot Finance Director)"By adding apartments down there and additional parking it would just be a total package that would be a great step forward for the Downtown area in becoming more vibrant and lively."
The bids have to be reviewed before there is any determination on when the project will begin.
