Business Beat 8/1

Posted: Updated:

It has been a week of grand openings in the region...and perhaps none bigger than in Tioga where Cenex is celebrating...

(Kim Crawford - Complex Manager) "It is a lot more than hot dogs..."

Kim Crawford is the complex manager...and what a complex the Tioga Travel Plaza is. The grand opening here is underway. You'll find 5 thousand square feet of shopping for clothes alone here. Add on a business center, showers, a salon, a state-of-the-art kitchen complete with an executive chef...and you've got something that is unmatched in the region.

(Timothy Cornett - Complex Asst. Manager) "It is actually the largest travel plaza in North Dakota and one of the largest Cenex stores in the United States." (Kim Crawford - Complex Manager) "When I got here it was so hard to run to Minot, run to Williston...it was very difficult so that helped in the process of designing the travel plaza."

The Tioga Travel Plaza employs 74 people...and already they are looking to add more.

In Minot on Wednesday, the ribbon was officially cut for Gate City Bank and the new Dakota Square location. Gate City had a location here, and even through the construction of this new facility they had a temporary site up and running...but now they have grown to try and meet the demands of a growing community. The space is here and nice...now they need more people!

(Peggy Johnson - Gate City Bank) "We are adding additional staff. We actually have two positions posted now, full time. We are looking to fill everything. We have 10 offices in this location and we are really excited about the growth."

Johnson says Gate City may soon be expanding again, this time to North Hill although nothing official has been decided as of yet. With Business Beat, I'm Perry Olson.
