New East-West Connection Well Underway in Bismarck

Posted: Updated:

A new road for North Bismarck is well underway.

Just north of Furniture Row, construction of 57th Avenue from Highway 83 to Washington Street is the first stage of a multi-stage project that will eventually extend over to River Road.  The road is being constructed in order to develop the infrastructure through the area.  The county says they're looking ahead, since it's important to establish the main routes properly before the development beats them to it.

"This will be a high level serving roadway, and so we will limit the amount of access points on this particular road.  We work with developers in defining where those particular access points are at, and they will be developing the local streets that are on the back sides of these particular roads," says Marcus Hall, Burleigh County Engineer.

The gravel work on the 83-to-Washington segment is expected to be completed this winter with paving to follow in the spring.  Since this is a county project, not being contracted out, the timeframe may vary depending upon what other county projects come up in the meantime.
