Despite the multiple cases of vandalism that occurred last week, the new Erik Ramstad Middle School is still slated to open around Thanksgiving.
Minot Public Schools is currently getting estimates for cleaning up the damage caused after officials discovered vulgarity painted on the walls last Thursday morning and two fires later that night.
While the fires caused no structural damage, smoke did permeate through the building and will now have to be cleaned to avoid future problems.
Officials are determining whether the walls splattered with paint will have to be cleaned or repainted.
No official cost in damages has been determined yet, however, Minot Public Schools Superintendent Mark Vollmer says the school opening is still on schedule for the end of November.
(Mark Vollmer, Minot Public School Superintendent)"It's not going to hamper or slow down the process. It's just an unfortunate thing and we're grateful that the fire was caught early; we're grateful there was not more damage than there was; but still, this is something that the community has invested in and we just want to remind people if you know who was responsible or you've heard rumors, contact the Minot Police Department. We want to get to the bottom of this."
A $5,000 dollar reward is still available for anyone with information leading to the conviction of the person or persons responsible.
