Improvements to facilities have been happening all across the Minot Public School district...some much bigger than others like at Longfellow like we showed you yesterday.
But at Jim Hill Middle School, they too are getting ready to break in a new wing.
This is a much needed new gymnasium that will be ready to go for the first day of school.
Principal Cindy Mau says it has been a great need for years at Jim Hill.
For one, the existing gym just can't hold all the students that call the school home anymore.
This will change that, and give physical education teachers a new tool to use getting and keeping kids active.
(Cindy Mau - Jim Hill Principal) "We all know that middle level students need lots of physical activity and so having this state-of-the-art facility for middle school students is wonderful and we know that MPS students that are in after school sports, it is a value to them in their personal life and as they grow up so we are encouraged that they have more room to enhance our phys ed and athletic programs so we are happy about that."
New locker rooms are a part of the addition to the west end of the school.
Mau says these upgrades were overdue -- because the number of kids they see through the doors just continues to increase...and it is hard to keep up.
(Cindy Mau - Jim Hill Principal) "We should be able to seat our entire school here and it gives us a facility for the community when we aren't using it. We have needed this and it is a great addition and keeps Jim Hill right on the top with athletics."
Tomorrow -- we'll look at another school that is growing on North Hill -- Lewis and Clark Elementary.
