Great Plains Food Bank Celebrates 30 Years

The Great Plains Food Bank is celebrating 30 years of feeding the hungry.

This afternoon a ribbon cutting ceremony was held to recognize the Food Bank's accomplishments.

The Food Bank distributes more than 1 million meals each year, which is a big increase from 30 years ago.

"With food distribution going from 189,000 pounds in 1983 to more than 12 millions pounds over the last year, that someday our network would grow from 20 networking partners in the Fargo/Moorhead area to more than 260 sites in over 100 communities across all of North Dakota and Clay County Minnesota," Program Director Steve Sellent said.

Sellent says not only are they celebrating the past thirty years but also embracing the next 30.

He says within the next year they will add or expand services in four key focus areas including; Childhood and Senior hunger, rural hunger and community based solutions to hunger
