Residents Weigh In One More Time On Downtown Do-Over

Posted: Updated:

About 60 people show up to let 'em have it.  In this case, the "it" was good news for proponents of proposed upgrades to downtown Bismarck.

Urban designers Crandall Arambula presented "game changer" projects -- and more -- for the downtown area.  Ideas include public spaces like Depot Plaza, changes to street designs and a sky bridge.  They were well-received by this group of residents who had lots of ideas of their own, as well.

"It's long overdue, honestly, I believe.  And I think everyone would agree it would at least be nice to have an idea of where we're going to take this," says Kristopher Smotherman.

"We're coming out of The Toasted Frog and thinking, 'it would nice to be able to just go sit somewhere,' but you have to sit on the curb.  There's no place to go," says John Severson, owner of Montana Furniture & Mercantile.

"And why shouldn't Bismarck be beautiful?" says Angie Swiec.

More green space, artwork, outdoor seating and downtown housing opportunities were also suggested.  This was the final public input meeting to discuss the downtown draft implementation plan.
