Lewis and Clark Addition to Meet Deadline

Lewis and Clark Addition to Meet Deadline

Posted: Updated:

Lewis and Clark Elementary on North Hill in Minot has grown in size this summer...

But don't let the look on the outside of the school fool you...what has happened at this school is much more than an addition.

Perry Olson takes us inside the school that will have both kids and staff alike doing a double take.

From the outside, you'd think that Lewis and Clark just had a moderate sized addition put on...and while that is true...step inside, and you'll see that the entire school is getting a much needed make-over as well.

(Pat Slotsve - Lewis and Clark Principal) "The old school will be renovated to look very similar to the new part so we have a flow that goes from the oldest to the older to the new part."

That work has been done at a fevered pace...walls moved, hallways changed, rooms relocated -- all in just a few weeks on the existing part of the school...

(Pat Slotsve - Lewis and Clark Principal) "After school was out, day one they started out on the remodel on the other side. We have been going for a year and a half now."

18 months or so when you consider the work to build the new area -- and what an area it is. A new library and media center that both teachers and students will enjoy, and room for the kids. This is now a four section elementary, meaning four classes of each grade...with room to grow still if needed thanks to resource rooms that will be class free...

(Pat Slotsve - Lewis and Clark Principal) "Ultimately if numbers came we could even have a five section school and use those resource rooms. We hope that we don't have to do that but that could be a possibility."

It's space that the district needs -- and is getting here. Slotsve points to the new gym as a big addition...

(Pat Slotsve - Lewis and Clark Principal) "My old gym was a quarter or a third this size was used until 9:30 so to be able to provide this for public use in the evenings is going to be great."

It all adds up to a great new learning environment. In Minot, Perry Olson, KX News.

Tomorrow, a look inside the final school that will open later this fall...Ramstad.
