At the Races-Beeter's Relay

At the Races-Beeter's Relay

Posted: Updated:

We all have our hobbies...

And we all have our reasons for those hobbies.

In this week's "At the Races" we go back in the pits and meet two young brothers cooping with the loss of a love one.

While trying to use their skills as IMCA Hobby Stock drivers to help others.

"(Derek Hackett) Whether it's pride, money or just passion over 200 drivers have raced at the Nodak Speedway this season. And each of them have their own reason and motivations. But none better than the Beeter Brothers.

(Brock Beeter/Hobby Stock Racer #48) "We set a goal, me and my brother this summer to see if we could raise 10,000 dollars for 'Relay for Life' We lost my mom last year to lung cancer, brain cancer and bone cancer. I don't want anybody else to go through what we went through and I'm going to do whatever I can"

July 29th, 2012, Bonnie's Beeter past away. That weekend both her sons went out to do what she loved to watch them do....Race.

And even though her eldest, Brandon, won the track championship that year it just felt...well...

"(Brandon Beeter/Hobby Stock Racer #47)"Different. That's the only way we can explain it. Going to opening night without my mom there. Last year we were in shock, finished out the year but this year....it's been different. It just doesn't feel right but I'm sure as time goes it'll feel better."

(Brock Beeter)"It felt like we were going behind her back. She's always been at the race track and we've always had her there so to go to the races without her was.....it just felt like we were cheating her or something. Like we didn't give her an invite, we were doing something without telling her."

In memory of Bonnie...that's the motto for Beeter Racing this summer and with help from family, friends and fans they have now raised over 14,000 dollars for Relay for Life.

(Brock Beeter)" Yeah, we pass a helmet around. We went up there with the hobby stock drivers and the sport mods drivers...The racing community comes together and puts their power together to earn some money for a good cause."

For 15 years Bonnie was Beeter racing's biggest fan, and now their greatest motivation.

(Brock)"So now we're kind of doing this for her. We know what she wants, she told us all her life what she wants us to go do so now we're just doing it."

(Brandon)" I believe she's smiling down from above every night we take the race track."

So whether it was pride, money or the memory of a mother--The Better's found their motivation.

Both Beeter's are on the top of the points standings in the Hobby Stock class at the Nodak Speedway.

Brock leading older brother Brandon by just one point.

They'll be racing for the title on August 25th.
