The population of the area is growing, and that effects most every organization and business, including Minot's YMCA. The number of people looking for a place to exercise has increased a great deal. Carla Burbidge has this week's Eye on Health."
These boys are preparing for the fall tackle football league, at the YMCA. It's a full program this year, with plenty of kids involved.
Increased enrollment is the trend at the YMCA. In fact, both basketball courts are full most evenings, fitness classes are filling up and more have been added, and most of the exercise equipment in the 15-thousand square foot training center is being used.
Roger Mazurek, Director YMCA
"we just keeping going up, it has increased about 10-percent a year, every year for 10 years, in 2000 we had 4000 members, at the end of 2013 we will have 10,000 a month"
As Roger mentioned the "Y" moved to this facility in SW Minot in 2000, and they have already expanded once. They know they need to expand some more.
Roger, "child care is a priority, we may have to have a north location, and then some additional things on this side of town"
The YMCA employs 330 employees many of them part time, so like every business finding and scheduling workers is a challenge. Mazurek says the YMCA has a long history in Minot, he's proud of that. And they are excited about what's to come.
Roger " this is a wonderful part of the community, we are happy to be a part of this"
