Bids Opened on County Building

Posted: Updated:

Contractors say they can build the new Ward County Office Building for about what architects estimated.

Bids were opened today for the new building that will be located directly across the street to the north of the current county courthouse.

Architect Don Davison had estimated the cost at about 15.3 million dollars - and the bids today were in that general neighborhood.

There were about ten bids total - some for all of the work and others for various portions of the project.

Davison says his company will now go over the complex bids to see which ones should be accepted.

(Don Davison, Architect) "The commissioners will meet again on Thursday morning at nine o'clock to discuss some more. That'll give us about a day to go through the bids and recommend something to the commissioners and then we'll discuss that on Thursday morning."

Voters approved the new office building as a way to relieve a space crunch faced by the county.
