Bismarck Bus Issues Cause Frustration

Posted: Updated:

With school in Bismarck back in full swing, so are the school buses.

Delayed pick up times and arrivals caused concern for many parents.

Steph Scheurer has the details.

On the first day of school, things may not always go as planned.

This was the case for the Bismarck Public School buses.

Many students had to wait outside their schools for over an hour for a bus to arrive.

Others didn't get home until even an hour after their scheduled time.

Many parents are voicing their frustrations.

"Was there an accident? Did he miss the bus? You know, did they get lost? We had plans in the evening that it made us late for but it was more just the worry of where's he at? You know, you can't call anybody. The bus service doesn't know, the school doesn't know. You know, and unless the kids happen to have a cell phone along, you have no way of knowing where they're at," says Amy Nelson, Parent.

Darin Scherr, Director of Facilities and Transportation is aware of the issue and is making sure that the proper adjustments are being made to help make the bus system run more smoothly.

"The routes that we communicated with parents were off a little bit. So we're in the process we almost have everything re-routed again. Today was much better than yesterday. And then we hope that we'll communicate those new times with all families and we hope, you know, in the next few days it'll be just working like clockwork," says Darin Scherr.

Scherr says they didn't receive as many phone calls this morning.

Hopefully a sign that this problem is slowly being resolved.
