Minot Air Force Base received some much needed improvements today with the dedications of two new buildings.
A ribbon cutting meant the official opening of the Base Operations Facility and Air Traffic Control Tower.
Senators John Hoeven and Heidi Heitkamp, along with Representative Kevin Cramer were on hand to welcome the new additions to the base.
The facility includes state-of-the-art work stations for airfield operations and weather personnel for specified missions.
The control tower allows Air Traffic Control personnel to consolidate training, certifications, and operations all in one building.
Each building provides needed modernization to operations, and training to improve flight mission effectiveness.
(John Hoeven, Senator) "It's very, very important that as we make those changes that the Minot Air Force Base with its duel nuclear mission of B-52's and missiles, remains a vital, robust, well founded, well supported part of our military. Now and for generations to come."
(Heidi Heitkamp, Senator) "I was reminded by your chaplin that this is the second most powerful place on Earth. Right here in Minot. And I know that every one of you take that extraordinarily seriously. You understand the commitment, you understand the mission, and you understand the task at hand."
More improvements may be coming in the new year.
Senator Hoeven says he's working on a bill to include 30 million dollars in funding for the base in 2014.
