200 Hired, 100 To Go -- Mandan Walmart Gears Up For Grand Opening This Fall

Posted: Updated:

A certain North Dakota Walmart could very well be the most unique in the country.

Unique, not because it's different in any significant way; rather, it's unique because the store still must hire 100 employees -- and the fall grand opening is swiftly approaching.  However, management says they're up for the task -- and the benefit to the community is worth it.
"We've met the challenges head on and we're not letting them get in our way of opening this store.  In the state of North Dakota last year, Walmart collected over $54.3 million dollars in sales tax revenues, so that's obviously something that's going to benefit the community of Mandan quite, quite well," says Andrew Coppersmith, Manager, Mandan Walmart.

They've hired 200 employees so far, and they're still looking for people to fill positions across-the-board.  One new employee packed up and moved from 1,000 miles away to come to North Dakota and join the Mandan team.

"We have a gentleman who has come all the way from Michigan, heard about us, not family-related.  He wanted the opportunity to work for this great company, get his foot in the door.  He saw the opportunity.  He jumped on it and now he's working with us here at the store," says Coppersmith.

Management says you'll notice a few design and layout changes in the Mandan store.  One you won't notice, but that supports the store's commitment to sustainability, is how they're using waste energy from their refrigeration system to generate the store's hot water.
