Record Wet Year Likely

Posted: Updated:

A rainy week has just about guaranteed that Minot will set a new annual precipitation record in 2013.

Jim Tarasenko at the North Central Research and Extension Center reports the past two rainfalls have totaled almost 2-and-a-half inches.

He has recorded 3-point-4 inches of rain in Minot in August.

And that pushes the total for the year to 26.47 inches of precipitation, about a half-inch shy of the full-year record set in 1975.

In 1975, a total of 26.99 inches of moisture was recorded.

So, unless we suddenly fall into a drought, 2013 is going to go into the record books as the wettest year since records have been kept in Minot.
