In Garrison, high temperatures are lowering student morale.
So to keep the kids energy levels afloat, the elementary school took a field trip down the road, to the swimming pool.
From one until three today, students from the school were bussed a few blocks to the Garrison public pool to enjoy relief from the cool water, and will do so again tomorrow.
School began on August 20th for the children of Bob Callies (-lease) Elementary School.
Without air conditioning it's been quite hot in most of the classrooms during this time.
To make sure the pool didn't get too crowded, the school broke up the two hours into three - 35 minute shifts of students.
Principal Michelle Fuller, attempted this two years ago but plans fell through.
But when she received the okay from the park board yesterday, she made sure word spread quickly.
(Michelle Fuller, Principal, Bob Callies Elementary School) "The response has just been just very excited, enthusiastic and very appreciative of trying to keep our kids cool, yet keep our kids in school as long as we can.... we are just so grateful that we have a pool in Garrison to be able to do that and that we have that cooperation with our community, our park board, and our parents to be able to really work together to be able to do what's best for our kids."
Fuller said she would like to make this a tradition for the school.
Children unable to participate remained at the school to play board games.
