Menoken School Evacuated after Smell of Smoke

Posted:

A scare at Menoken School this afternoon as teachers and students are evacuated.

The Bismarck Rural Fire Department was called to the school around 1:15 to the report of the smell of smoke.

When they arrived teachers and students were outside on the lawn.

Chief Al Klein says no flames or smoke were visible.

He says they quickly set up command and entered the school.

"After a lengthy investigation we determined that the smoke came from the kitchen where some food was burned in a microwave oven and it somehow got to the kitchen through the air duct system into the bathroom where the smoke was the strongest," says Bismarck Rural Fire Chief Al Klein.

Klein says students and teachers had returned to classes before his crews had left the scene.
