University of Mary to Add Military Counseling Program

Posted:

For those who serve in the military or are family to someone who does, you know it can be a difficult time.

Now there is a counseling program with a military emphasis starting up.

The University of Mary Worldwide is now offering the region's only military emphasis in the Master of Science in Counseling.

The program will consist of two courses - Counseling Military Families and Trauma and Loss in Military Families.

The first course will begin November 12 at the University of Mary campus in Fargo.

Plans are currently underway to offer this program in Bismarck beginning next spring.

"The interest in the military emphasis has been very, very profound. As far as the broader community, we're not sure what the interest in the counseling community will be. However, we do know that this is an area in which there is a need," says Rebecca Salveson, Chair of Graduate and Distance Education, University of Mary (Bismarck).

If you're interested in this program, you can contact Dr. Jarilyn Gess at the Fargo campus at 232-7088, or go to www.umary.edu.
