Burleigh County Commission Makes Decision To Re-Zone Land

Posted:

The Burleigh County Commission votes to rezone land east of Bismarck from Agricultural to Industrial.

This land in the Menoken Township has been a hot topic for a couple months.

Tonight the board makes their decision to change the land from Agricultural to Industrial.

A member of the Burleigh county planning commission spoke at tonight's meeting asking County Commissioners who they serve.

<<"There are 1,065 acres of Industrial zone land for sale in Burleigh County, we need to reach out to Menoken? And basically condemn 400 acres of prime farmland, so that someone can build something?" Pat Whalen said.>>

Commissioner Whalen also made a public announcement at tonight's meeting, saying he is done working on the Burleigh County Planning Commission.

<<"Now's not the time, but I am resigning from the County Planning Commission, because I cannot, you know Mr. Armstrong and Mr. Bitner have shown me that I do not belong on the County Planning Commission, I am shocked and appalled at the Planning Commission, I think that it's out of control and I'm shocked and appalled the County Commission ignores heavy opposition to something like this?" Whalen said.>>

Again the Burleigh County Commission has approved re-zoning the land east of Bismarck from Agricultural to Industrial, under the conditions that no building permits will be given until certain requirements are met.
