From Georgia to Michigan, and ultimately, North Dakota, one man's six month search for work ends in Mandan.  He's found success with a company some love to hate.

After half a year of unemployment and relentless searching, one man risks it all and heads West for work -- to North Dakota.  But Roddrick Marshall didn't move to work in oil country.  He moved to work -- at Walmart.

With five years experience in logistics and warehousing, he still could not find work back east.  "Outside North Dakota for the places I've been in, it's horrible, as far as job market," says Roddrick Marshall, Supervisor, Inventory Management System at Mandan Walmart.

Though his journey began in Atlanta, Roddrick was actually in Kalamazoo, Michigan, helping a friend about to have surgery, when he contacted Mandan Walmart.  And they contacted him in -- "less than an hour.  I didn't even think it was for real.  Because I placed so many applications."  Walmart told him, if you can get here, we have a job.  "I decided to hop on Greyhound and came in."

Twenty-two hours later, Roddrick arrived in Bismarck.  Walmart put him to work that week -- with an added bonus.  "We hired him for overnights, but once we interviewed him, we knew right away he was able to be promoted right away.  So we actually promoted him within a week," says Andrew Mau, Shift Manager, Mandan Walmart.

Roddrick says, "I just feel right at home, because I'm working."  In fact, Roddrick is so motivated by work, he's taken on another job at McDonald's in Bismarck, so he can send money back to his family.

He's saving for a car, but right now he's getting around town on his mountain bike -- "that I purchased at Walmart, 'everyday low prices.'"

So how does Walmart feel about Roddrick so far?  "He's just a great guy and we're very, very glad to have him on our team," says Mau.

And how does Roddrick feel about Walmart?  "Lovin' it.  Lovin' it -- even though that's the slogan from my second job."

Roddrick says what he enjoys most about his Walmart job is the training and opportunity to learn team building.  Walmart is still looking for employees at the Mandan store.  Management says Walmart's average pay in North Dakota is $14.23 per hour.  The company also offers a 401k, stock purchase plan, and health care coverage as low as $17 per paycheck.
