Students Experience Culture at Powwow Youth Day

It's youth day at United Tribes International Powwow.

Students and youth groups got to see in real life what they've been learning about in school.

Kids are immersed in the tribal music, culture, and performances by dancers.

The event featured Aztec dancers presenting the culture of central Mexico as well as presentations by contestants from the Miss Indian Nations pageant.

Assistant Principal Vickie Pomonis says this day is something her students look forward to every year.

"Many of them, even though they live in Bismarck, I find have never been able to experience the Powwow and this way they've all been able to get out here and see it and we can talk about, like I said, some of the symbolism and things. But when they see it in action, then they understand," says Vickie Pomonis, Assistant Principal, Sunrise Elementary.

Students and staff conclude their day by attending the colorful Grand Entry at 1pm.
