Hundreds Take Steps Out of the Darkness

A break in some stormy weather allows hundreds to stay dry...

During the sixth annual Out of the Darkness walk.

The sunshine is much needed during a fundraising walk supporting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

More than 250 Out of the Darkness walks take place around the country this fall.

Money raised will go to support research, education, and suicide prevention programs.

Families and friends in Bismarck gather in teams, many wearing brightly-colored t-shirts with the names of loved ones on them.

"I lost my son February 16, 2011 to suicide," says Laurie Mann.

"My son, we lost him through suicide and nobody had any idea that he was going through such darkness and if we can help support others, that's what we're here for," says Karen Frank.
