The running game can be used in a lot of ways-- especially in 9 man football.
This season Shiloh is out to a 2 and 0 start-- and it all begins with a tandem of two juniors carrying the load this season for the Skyhawks.
With a young team this season-- Shiloh Head coach Funnon Barker is leaning on juniors AJ Dale and Blake Emmel.
(FUNNON BARKER)"You know blake and AJ both do a great job for us they set the tone offensively and really defensively as well they really just come to work everyday and they work hard you know they lead by example."
Offensively both running backs have completely different styles.
Dale--is a stocky back who likes to run between the tackles.
(AJ DALE)"I'm not huge as in breaking away with my speed I mean I would rather just fall forward on each play and if I can get five yards and fall forward that helps the team."
the Skyhawks counter the power ground game with Emmel-- who uses the open space to his advantage.
(BLAKE EMMEL) "In our offense we just try to get one on one with our running backs and for me I just try to get up to the outside and if I can beat one guy than it seems like that's all you have to do."
It's paying off.
Emmel has 6 rushing touchdowns and 2 receiving TD's.
When You add A.J. Dale's production-- the two account for 11 of Shiloh's 12 touchdowns this season.
(BARKER)"It's no secret what we're going to do. We're going to pound the football and play action off that. Teams know that and certainly having two good backs like that really helps."
With a strong ground game-- that takes the pressure off of Shiloh's Quarterback-- first year starter-- Zac Martin.
(EMMEL)"It really helps because once we establish that run than we can start establishing the pass. If the defense keeps biting on our run than we'll have the pass wide open."
So far in 2013-- Emmel and Dale have helped get the Skyhawks out to a 2 and 0 start...
Both backs know their role and all they want to see is their production help get the W.
(DALE)"We're set to make hopefully compete for a state championship, I mean we have a good team and our running game is really helping us too."
