Record Rainfall Provides for Bountiful Harvest in Bowman County

Bowman, ND -

Bowman area farmers are getting after harvesting their wheat after receiving between five and nine inches of rain last weekend.

While the rain may have held up some farmers, you don't hear much complaining about the moisture in Bowman County.

Rodney Schaaf says his wheat ran around 60 bushels an acre. While some farmers are reporting as high as 89 bushels an acre.

In addition, Schaaf says the corn crop also looks excellent.

He says this years' crops rank in the top five.

"Mother nature was good to us. It's a real good way to go into winter. Sub-soil is replenished, should be in good shape for next spring. Stock dams are full. Things look good going into winter," says Schaaf.

The National Weather Service says the Bowman area has already shattered the record for most moisture in one year.

Nearly 32 inches of moisture has fallen so far this year in Bowman.

The old record was set in 1982 at 28 inches.

That area average only 15.5 inches of moisture a year.
