STEER Inc. Cows Helping Missions Across the Globe

Posted:

Some local cows are generating dollars to do the Lord's work across the globe.
Ag Reporter Sarah Gustin has more on the multi-million dollar impact the STEER organization is having across the globe.

These cows grazing just south of Bismarck are raising money to be sent across the globe.
(Will MacDonald / Rancher) "It's wonderful because we never would be able to give that kinda of money in cash for missions."
The STEER program has been steering money towards missionaries since 1957.
To date steer has sent 20 million dollars to 85 member mission organizations serving around the world.
(Alan Steier / Missionary) "They assist us in getting to the people in need. The farmers that provide the cattle and the resources that help support us, get us over to the various countries that we travel to visit those serving in various parts of the world."
How it works--donors donate money to buy cows.
Farmers and ranchers than give their time, labor and feed so the money these cows generate can be used to help share God's word.
More than 1200 farmers/ranchers in 38 states are now participating in the program.
Bill and Linda MacDonald ranch south of Bismarck.
The MacDonalds have been participating in the program since 1976.
(Linda MacDonald / Rancher) "We wanted to give to missions, but as farmers we couldn't lay out the cash, so this worked out very well, and what I really liked was that out of the 80 mission organizations that we support. You can choose which one you want the money to go to."
Their son Will and his family are also involved in the program.
(Will MacDonald / Rancher) "All four of the Gospel's Matthew, Mark, Luke and John all end with Jesus giving the last commandment to his disciples to go out to all nations and make disciples of Christ and to spread the Gospel message of salvation and lives changed through the faith in Jesus Christ. I don't take that lightly, or Jerilyn and I don't take that lightly and STEER gives us a way to participate in that great commission in a meaningful way."
A gift that keeps on giving.

Horses and cropland also qualify for the STEER program.
The STEER 2013 missions conference will be held on October 4 & 5 right here in Bismarck at the Ramkota Hotel.
