Dietitian Weighs in on Latest Diet Supplement Craze

Posted: Updated:

A green coffee bean extract is one of the latest weight-loss wonders promising fast results by taking the product.

Advertisements have been floating around on social media, and it was a hit on a popular TV show last year.

Several different supplements are hot sellers in stores like GNC, and although our informal facebook survey had mixed results from viewers:  Some had positive results from taking it--some say it's "hocus pocus"...

A nutritionist says you should be cautious before buying into any hype.

Kendal Bjella says she couldn't find a lot of research information on the green coffee bean extract product, but there are some red flags to look out for.

"Anything that's saying you can lose a lot of weight without dieting and exercising is generally just kind of a red flag...

"So that's why as dietitians we're like just try and eat the fruit and vegetables, try and find a physical activity that you like because you're probably going to have better success with that then spending your money on the six different diet supplements that change every month." says Kendal Bjella, Licensed Registered Dietitian.

Bjella says that you should consult with your doctor before taking any new pills--including vitamins or supplements.
