Farm Bill Expires

Posted:

The government shuts down and the Farm Bill Expires.

The 2008 Farm bill expired once, but Congress passed an extension earlier this year, allowing the bill to continue for one more year.
September 30th was the deadline of the extension.
Now dozens of USDA programs have ended.
The North Dakota Farmers Union President says he's disappointed and that Congress's actions are unacceptable.

(Woody Barth / NDFU President) "We as family farmers and ranchers are used to rolling up our sleeves and getting projects done, we are used to balancing budget and putting policies in place. And right now we are not seeing that in Washington. The FSA offices that we use as family farmers and ranchers are closed as of this morning."

The Food stamps, and crop insurance programs will remain in place.
