Høstfest Opens - Kids Arrive

Posted: Updated:

The Norsk Høstfest carries a bit of an age limit misnomer.

"You're four?! You guys are really old."

But it's a magical place for people of all ages.

"What do reindeer do?" "Fly."

"Reindeer?" "No!"

At Tromsø Hall, the kids of Children's Garden Preschool met the reindeer, in training for the holidays, then it was off to Reykavik Hall.

(Sara Brentrup, Children's Garden Preschool) "An important part of early childhood education is teaching children about different cultures and different experiences. So one year we thought, 'Hey, let's try it,' and it's just been a wonderful experience year after year."

"Oh I like those t-shirts guys! Whoo!"

(Sara Brentrup, Children's Garden Preschool) "The people end up watching the kids more than the acts that they're watching. They always get out their cameras and take pictures of the children. It's really special."

"Can I hold onto your rope too?!"

A Scandinavian Skavenger Hunt keeps the kids in line.

"Did we see rosemaling? Vikings?"

Everything from accordian players to Miss Norsk Høstfest - or maybe two in one.

(Sara Brentrup, Children's Garden Preschool) "We started off the week on Monday having a lesson on the Scandinavian countries. We learned about their flags and a little bit about their culture and the things that they do in their countries.

"Trolls."

(Sara Brentrup, Children's Garden Preschool) "They talk about it for months to come. They always talk about the trolls, that's always a big thing that they like."

"We saw that troll, that troll, that one, that one, that one..."

(Sara Brentrup, Children's Garden Preschool) "They'll get back in the classroom and they'll pretend to be the singers, they'll get out their instruments and pretend to put on a little show. They pick up so much from these experiences."

The Norsk Høstfest is a win for the future generation, because cultural adventures are not only for the young at heart.

"Good bye!"

From the Norsk Høstfest in Minot, Jennifer Thorgramson, KX News.

Kris Kristofferson is getting ready to take the main stage tonight in the Great Hall of the Vikings.

He will be inducted into the Scandinavian-American Hall of Fame tonight --- so if the chill of the weather is getting to you, it's a nice night for an indoor concert.
