The Dickinson State Bluehawks football team had another rough Saturday with their loss to Southern Oregon.
But position's are starting to become more clear as to who belongs at the top of the depth chart.
Jon Schaeffer has more.
As fall camp for the Bluehawks started it was between sophomore Thad Lane and red shirt freshman junior college transfer Kaler Ray for the starting quarterback job. In recent weeks it's been Ray finding his way under center to start the game.
(Kaler Ray/ DSU Quarterback) "I learned so much down at Mesa Community College coach Felker helped me out a ton and really helped me get some mechanics down and just mature overall as a quarterback."
(Hank) "He gives us an element, keeping the ball plays alive you know so he moves around a little bit right now he's doing fine. "
As a freshman he has already developed a good rapport with his wideouts.
(Kayler)"I've just been working really hard in practice just trying to make plays when I can when I'm in the game just execute the best that we can and the teammates around me are really helping me out whether it's J.T. Keith making huge catches and Dalton Reed has really stepped up also."
On the field Ray has become a vocal leader for the Bluehawks whether it's practice or game day.
(Kayler) "I just like to bring as much excitement as I can, and try to get the other guys riled up and just get everybody enthusiastic to play some football."
The Bluehawks haven't found a win yet this season--but their best chance will come this weekend against the University of Jamestown. The jimmies are struggling at just 1 and 5. It's a rivalry that has been lost a little bit because of the move to the Frontier Conference by Dickinson State.
(Hank) "We've got a lot of new kids on the team that the old conference thing and Jamestown College, University of Jamestown doesn't mean a lot to the guys on our team."
(Kayler) "Excited for our homecoming. It'll be good."
Even if the rivalry is not as strong as years past against the University of Jamestown, Kaler Ray and the offense of Dickinson State look for their first win of the season.
