Government Shutdown Impacts Reservations

Posted:

Nurses on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation are working without pay.

Currently all government functions are closed on reservations except for essential services, like Indian Health Services.

On the Standing Rock Reservation there's still people who need medical attention so Indian Health Service employees are still showing up for work.

<<"The shutdown impacts employees that work there, they are no longer getting paid. But there are individuals that come in with illnesses or maybe somebody that got traumatized or a trauma or accident, somebody has to be there at IHS so you'll see nurses coming in and working, and they know they're not getting paid," Standing Rock Reservation Chairman Dave Archambault said.>>

Archambault (ARE-SHAM-BOE) says the longer the government is shut down more people on the reservation will continue to be impacted.
