Zoo Reaching End of Season

Zoo Reaching End of Season

Posted: Updated:

Leaves on the ground and dropping temperatures point toward the colder months ahead.

With seasonal changes setting in, the Roosevelt Park Zoo is preparing to end its season.

Zoo staff are currently making the preparations for the closing of the zoo grounds which is Sunday.

Some animals will head indoors for the winter and others that can remain outside will be given extra bedding.

The Zoo re-opeoned in May after the flood put operations on hold for two years.

A zoo spokesperson says this year's season was a success.

(Staci Kenney, GMZS Coordinator)"We've had record high numbers this year. It's been great as far as membership sales, people through the door, a lot of out-of-towners. We've had a lot of support."

This Sunday is the last day of the zoo season; however, the visitor's center is open all year.

Special events will also be held during the fall and winter months.
