New technology helps in detecting breast cancer sooner.
This Automated Whole Breast Ultrasound System is one of only 13 in the country.
This specialized breast ultrasound table, takes 3D images so radiologists get a better look at what the patient is experiencing.
The technology is specialized for women with dense breast tissue.
(Mark Stribling / Inventor of SOFIA System) "It's well tolerated by women. They just lay on their stomach in the prone position. It's a rapid exam, but it's a whole breast, 3D exam of the breast, so it gives radiologists additional tools then they had with traditional, manual ultrasound."
(Christina Tello-Skjerseth / Radiologist) "We may not see some of those early cancers because the tissue is so dense. So having this life saving technology in the department is great. It gives us another option of looking at the breast tissue in those patients that have the dense breasts so we can look more clearly at the tissue and see if we can find some of those early cancers."
Patients will be able to use the table starting on Monday.
