Cakes for Cancer Research

Posted: Updated:

Giving to a good cause never tasted so good at the Project Pink Fundraiser in Minot today.

Businesses from around the Minot area were invited to Marketplace Foods to decorate an already baked cake.

Those cakes are then auctioned off to the highest bidders.

People from about 30 businesses got their hands frosty to beautify their cakes.

North Dakota Guardians brought the Pink Fire truck with them from Bismarck.

Any child who has or had cancer was able to take a ride on the truck.

All money goes to Trinity Health cancer rehab exercise program at the Minot YMCA.

Along with Peggy Kallies (Ka-lees), Nyla Stromberg started the auction several years ago, but it was two years ago when the auction hit really close to home.

(Nyla Stromberg, Co-Founder, Project Pink Fundraiser) "A couple of years ago when we didn't do this program, my husband ended up with cancer and he actually went through the program at thy Y and so that is why we chose it this year. But there are many many reason. It's helping our community and giving back to them and making awareness so that people can come out and get together and make a difference."

Marketplace Foods is also donating 10 percent of certain pink items in the store to the cancer cause.
