Adopt a Shelter Dog Month

Adopt a Shelter Dog Month

Posted: Updated:

October is adopt a shelter dog month.

While the month is almost over, there's never a bad time to change a dog's life by giving it a home.

According to the Human Society about three to four million cats and dogs are adopted from shelters each year.

But an estimated six to eight million cats and dogs enter shelters each year.

When choosing what dog is right for you, Director of Souris Valley Animal Shelter, Maggie Finwall says bigger dogs need more attention and usually a larger home, where as lap dogs do not.

But ultimately Finwall believes a home with an owner that cares, is what's best for the dog.

(Maggie Finwall, Director, Souris Valley Animal Shelter) "Everybody wants a pet, especially when you have a family, you want that furry addition to your family and kids.. they become so much a part of your life and a part of your heart and your family, so I think that suits just about anybody."

If you are interested in adopting a pet contact your local animal shelter, to give an animal a new life.
