Accident Shuts Down Highways

Posted: Updated:

A butane spill resulting from a semi-trailer accident shut down a busy intersection for more than 16 hours near New Town Friday night.

The Highway Patrol reports the tanker came loose from the rig and crashed into the ditch at the intersection of Highways 8 and 23 east of New Town.

The tank began leaking butane, forcing officials to close the roads and evacuate everyone within one mile of the site of the leaking tank.

The intersection was re-opened Saturday afternoon, after the spill had been contained and the tank had been removed from the ditch.

There were no injuries in the accident.
