National Cocker Championship Held in Burleigh County

Posted:

Some tough puppies are competing for top prize.

Burleigh County is hosting the national cocker championship.
More than 30 dog handlers and more than 70 dogs from across the county are participating in the 5 day event.
Dogs are judged on how quickly they retrieve as well as how they respond to their trainers.
Steve Wegner and his dog Bena made the trip from Johnstown Colorado to Compete.
This is Wegner's second national competition.
He says it's a sport he's fallen in love with.

(Steve Wegner / Dog Handler) "I love them because it's all about the dog in this event. I get to handle the dog. I don't have to worry about shooting. I just get to focus on my dog, which is a lot of fun."

Burleigh County also held the National Cocker Championship in 2005.
The top winners will be decided tomorrow on October 26th.
